Claims Manager

Job Type: Full-Time, travel required

Our adjusting firm is looking for a candidate who will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Claims Department, supervising claims adjusters and support staff, to ensure efficient operations, work quality and compliance with established protocol of the claims department and our clients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review incoming claims for assignment to appropriate level adjusters.
  • Provide guidance and instructions for claim handling due to unique coverage situations,perceived legal risks, unique builder and/or underwriting considerations.
  • Maintain an active daily tracking system for all open files, and/or conduct audits as necessary to monitor adjusters’ activities.
  • Ensure timely claim handling and compliance with contract provisions, established audit criteria and claims protocols. 
  • Provide appropriate corrections and guidance as needed to ensure appropriate claim handling, uniformity and consistent quality.
  • Ensure reserves and payments are supported by appropriate investigation and documentation.
  • Review, edit and/or approve written correspondence prepared by adjusters, including coverage denial letters, to ensure quality, consistency and technical accuracy before releasing to customers, clients or management.
  • Track and monitor pending workloads for each adjuster to ensure that aged pending, closing ratios, and average reserves are maintained at appropriate levels for efficiency and compliance with established claims protocols.
  • Confer with senior management to anticipate and plan for future staffing needs and business objectives.
  • Assist in the development of organizational policies, claims handling objectives and establishment of responsibilities and procedures for attaining company objectives.
  • Directly supervise employees and oversee inside and outside field adjusters.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities such as training and directing employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Actively recruits, retains and develops talent and holds employees accountable for results.
  • Leads change, manages conflict and fosters collaboration.
  • Manages customer expectations, solicits customer feedback and ensures commitments are met.

Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university preferred
  • Ten years claims adjusting experience preferred, with at least 3 years in management
  • Adjuster license for the state of Florida required
  • Project management experience
  • Knowledge of State Fair Claims Practices Act and generally accepted reserving practices
  • Proven leader, passion for people and results.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships at the management level across functional groups and business units.
  • Ability to influence the thinking of, or gain acceptance from others in sensitive situations, using influence and preventing damage to the relationships.
  • Knowledge of claims coverage issues, claims operations and procedures, and general insurance principles
  • Excellent claims handling skills;
  • Strong computer skills;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
